Reverend Michael Winnowski
Mike started coming to Geneva as a UW student. As he remembers it, the time he spent here and the people he spent time with powerfully shaped his spiritual life and his vocational choice. Mike eventually left Geneva to go to seminary.
Since graduating from Calvin Theological Seminary, Mike has served as a campus minister at the University of South Dakota, been a ship-visiting chaplain in the port of Montreal, and pastored a congregation in Waterloo, Ontario. In 2003, Mike returned to Geneva Campus Church as its pastor.
Mike’s family is an important part of his life and ministry. He and Beth (DeVries) met at Geneva, and got married here in 1983. Beth teaches English as a Second Language. They have three children: Lucy, Zoe and Clio.
Mike pursues a life-long passion for learning (he regularly takes courses at UW in a variety of disciplines). When time permits, Mike also enjoys reading, drawing, painting, photography, biking, kayaking and canoeing.
Administrator Sylvia Boomsma
Sylvia has been a member of Geneva since 1989 and on staff since early 2000. In her role of Administrator, she keeps our ministries, and our pastor, on track and keeps everyone on the same page. She says that her “nagging” and administrative gifts were honed while parenting five daughters and several foster children, managing their home and being Bob’s wife. Their children are young women now and launching careers and starting families of their own.
Sylvia counts it a privilege to work for Geneva and is thankful for the ways it helped shape the Boomsma home and personal ministry while their children were growing up. After the children went to college, Sylvia became even more convinced of the importance of the church in campus life. She said, “It’s an honor to serve students and watch them develop during their years at Geneva. And it’s a joy to know hundreds of Geneva alumni dispersed throughout the world, serving God and honoring him in their lives and work.”
Vocation | Formation Program Director Robert L. Kehoe III
Robert began attending Geneva in 2015, along with his wife Ashley and their sons Judah (5), and Edgeron (3), and took on the Vocation Formation directorship in 2016. He grew up just east of Madison, studied political theory at Wheaton College (IL), and philosophy at Boston College. In addition to his position at Geneva, he is a writer and associate editor for The Point Magazine. His work has appeared at the LA Review of Books, Boston Review of Books, Book and Culture, First Things, Madison Magazine, and has been featured at Digg.com, and Arts and Letters Daily. He is also the director of the Magic Moves soccer training program, working with athletes at all levels of competition. As Vocation|Formation Program Director at Geneva, Robert is excited to engage our student population as they seek to identify their calling through the university experience.
Artist in Residence Micah Behr
Micah has been attending Geneva since he visited in 2010 during his first week of graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The carefully planned, Christ-centered liturgy caught his attention, and during the past four years, his love for both God and the local church have increased through fellowship with Genevans. He recently graduated from UW with a Doctorate in Viola Performance, but his position at Geneva is giving him space to explore a broader range of musical gifts within the context of Christian community. He is grateful for this faith family where he can be challenged, encouraged, and can hopefully inspire people to love Jesus more.
Webmaster Joel Vander Molen
Joel has been Geneva’s Webmaster since 2006. He works for VMT and is based out of central Iowa. At his church, Joel has served as a deacon, Cadet counselor, and in several other roles. He works to keep the site up to date with the latest sermons and schedules so Genevans can use the web as a reliable tool. While adding sermons or listing the next potluck, Joel feels like an extended member of the Geneva family.
Due to receiving a spinal cord injury at a young age, Joel uses different tools to do the work God has given. If you find any problems on the site, please contact Joel and he will see what can be done. Also take a look at what other work he has done through VMT.
